Tell Attorney General Holder: Stop the political repression against Carlos Montes and other activists

Tell the FBI to return his cellphone, computers, personal papers and mementos immediately.

Please call and write US Attorney General Eric Holder (202) 353-1555 and demand Hands Off Carlos Montes and other activists.

On May 17, 2011 at 5:00 AM the SWAT Team of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and members of the FBI raided the home of Carlos Montes, a long time Chicano activist and active member of the Committee to Stop FBI Repression. The SWAT Team smashed the front door and rushed in with automatic weapons as Carlos slept. The team of Sheriffs and FBI proceeded to ransack his house, taking his computer, cell phones and hundreds of documents, photos, diskettes and mementos of his current political activities in the pro-immigrant rights and Chicano civil rights movement. Also taken were hundreds of historical documents related to Carlos Montes’ involvement in the Chicano movement for the past 44 years.

Carlos was arrested on one charge dealing with a firearm code and released on bail the following morning. His first court appearance is set for June 16, 2011.

This attack on Carlos Montes is part of the campaign of FBI harassment taking place against the 23 peace and justice activists which has until now been centered in the Midwest. Carlos Montes’ name was listed on the subpoena left in the office of the Twin Cities Anti-War Committee last September 24. When Carlos Montes was placed in the LA County Sheriff's car, an FBI agent approached and asked him questions about the Freedom Road Socialist Organization.

Carlos Montes has done nothing wrong. This is an attack on him and an attack on the Chicano movement for equality. Carlos has been involved and a committed leader in the immigrant rights, anti war, solidarity, and quality education movements his whole adult life.

Stop the Attacks on the Chicano and Immigrants Rights Movement!

Since The PATRIOT Act, both Administrations, have harassed and hassled dissenters in so many ways. Without a way to watchdog our civil liberties will be ignored

The Illegal & Immoral Arrest of Carlos Montes

What, precisely, are the charges? What justified a joint Los Angeles Sheriff Department and FBI SWAT team operation to arrest this man and seize his property. There are any number of internal threats to the USA and the largest is the "Christian Identity" movement. There are also many other right-wing, white power extremest militias. Why target Mr. Montes and not them? This is a clear violation of the civil rights of Mr. Montes and it is a flagrant, immoral, and unconstitutional abuse of power.

What was found during the raid? Stockpiles of illegal weapons? Large amounts of illegal drugs? Bomb-making equipment? Plans for terrorist acts? Or did they find nothing more than records of civil actions and plans for further protests?

This was an act with no purpose other than to intimidate social activists who advocate policies that anger the plutocrats and corporations to whom "our" elected officials report.

Hands Off of Carlos Montes

This is an outrage! No evidence just intimidation tactics and attacks on the Chicano Movement. If it weren't for activists what rights and equity rights would we have now. As it is these hard-fought rights are being eroded and taken away.

Political Repression

STOP THE POLITICAL REPRESSION AGAINST CARLOS MONTES AND OTHER ACTIVISTS!!! FBI RETURN CARLOS MONTES ALL PERSONAL BELONGINGS, CELL PHONES,COMPUTERS,PERSONAL PAPERS AND MEMENTOS IMMEDIATELY!!!!

Give Peace a Chance

Why does it seem that the few people that have given up their life to fight for justice alwasys seem to be getting pushed down.
I am asking from the most huble part of my heart to stop this injustice.

I personally know Carlos Montes, and he is a true inspiration to our community.
He does not support violence! He has help empower our community by helping us see the greatness of our culture, to appreciate the good and the bad of our people. He has been part of the struggle to gain the rights we have know as Mexican Americans. Carlos Montes and every other fighter for justice does not deserve this type of treatment.

Please be the public servant that we are proud to honor and respect.
Prosecute only when it is deserved based on evidence not on assumptions.

I am a proud Mexican American and I will continue to be and in this spirit I ask to give peace a chance.

Sincerely,

Maria

Carlos Montes arrest and ,seizure of his assets

As a Chicano Studies major(CSUN) I hereby protest this action by the police authorities involved. He is an activist loyal to the many causes that have cost innocent lives lost in the East Los Angeles barrio(Ruben Salazar is the first one to come to my mind) and the current L.A. County Sheriff is not above the law.He was ordered by the attorneys and Supervisor Molina to divulge to the L.A. Times reporters and the American public the mysterious.circumstances that led to Mr. Salazar killing by a sheriff's deputy during the Chicano Moratorium.Mr. Montes has been a major force behind the movement to share this information that was hidden in 9 boxes of documents hidden by Mr. Baca. who originally fought to preserve the incriminating documentation from the media and the citizens. The United States of America is still a free country where we still enjoy our freedoms and constitutional protections granted to those of us who exercise our civil rights ever since we became a nation independent of the European monarchs.
