This is a protest in solidarity with Carlos Montes, a well-known California Chicano activist raided by the FBI and the LAPD on May 17 as part of the nation-wide crack down on leftists. A SWAT team with automatic weapons broke down his door and ransacked his house, stealing his computer, many of his papers, and some mementos from his long activist career.

He is now facing a charge under the firearms code. But the FBI left no doubt about the reason for the raid: As soon as he was placed in a squad car they started asking him about his ties to the Freedom Road Socialist Organization.

The raid on Carlos is part of a bigger campaign in which several people have been raided, others have been visited by the FBI, and dozens of people have been subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury in Chicago.

Carlos is an active member of the Committee to Stop FBI Repression which was organized to fight against this campaign of repression.

Our demands are these:

  • Drop all charges against Carlos Montes!
  • End the grand jury!
  • End the repression of anti-war and solidarity activists!
