Can Travel Be Criminal?

Sunday, January 16, 2:00 pm, Community Meeting Room, Evanston Main Library, Church at Orrington.

Why would traveling abroad legally get you subpoenaed by the Department of Justice? That's what Sarah Smith, a young Chicago resident, wondered after the FBI called to discuss her trip to Israel and the Palestinian territories last summer...

Ms Smith and two friends are now expected to testify before a grand jury later in January. Hear Ms Smith describe her experiences, and get the perspective of Jim Fennerty and Ben Meyer of the National Lawyer’s Guild on why the U.S. Department of Justice is targeting U.S. citizens who travel to certain locales.

Free program with a moderated question and answer following the presentations. Refreshments served.
